Training courses#

Using an HPC system such as Calder is easiest with a basic understanding of the Linux command line, also known as the shell. These skills help you organise files, prepare and transfer data, run software and scripts, and manage your work on the system. Researchers who have used another HPC service will usually already be familiar with many of the essentials.

As your use of HPC develops, you may also benefit from shell scripting and command-line tools such as grep, awk, and sed. Familiarity with the programming languages, software, and workflows used in your research is particularly useful when developing or maintaining code for Calder.

University training#

The University offers regular training courses in research computing, programming, and related skills. Course descriptions and the current schedule are available on the Research Computing courses page.
